Alberta Marriage Ceremony

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

Alberta marriages are valid throughout the world and one does not have to be a Canadian citizen or Alberta resident to get married in the Province. All a couple requires is an Alberta Marriage License available at any Registry Office in the Province of Alberta.
There is a fee for this license.

To obtain the license, both of you must go to a Registry Office and each submit the following:

• Two pieces of identification - one must be photo ID (driver’s license, passport)
• Parents names and birthplaces
• Mother’s maiden name
• Final divorce decree - if either or both have been previously married
• Death certificate - if either or both are widowed
